What is marine engineering?
Marine engineering refers to the engineering of boats, ships, oil rigs and any other marine vessels.
Why marine engineering?
Because marine engineering consists all engineering such as Mechanical, Electrical and etc. So basically I chose to study more than a single engineering subject.
Marine engineering course consist of 13 subjects:-
- Language and communication - it is like an english subject but we study how to use it to communicate, how to describe an item/tool. It is important for presentation.
- General Engineering Knowledge - an engineering subject. We study the basic engineering operations such as how steering the ship works.
- Workshop Theory & Engineering Materials - we study and identify workshop tools, operations, safety and regulations.
- Mathematics - By reading the subject I guess you already know what it is. Still don't get the idea? MATHS! It is very important in engineering.
- Industrial Gas Turbine - We study how the turbine works. It is important because without turbine, engine won't work.
- I.T Application - It is like a computer studies. But we how to present and talk about our presentation and how to use the internet. It is useful for us to present new products and projects.
- Mechanical Science - Ever studied Additional Maths? Most likely that's it. But more confusing I guess. This is a very important subject for engineering.
- Engineering Drawing - It is basically an art subject but we draw engineering objects using the appropriate tools and instrument.
- Electrical Technology - An electrical subject. We study the basic, calculation, safety and regulation.
- Workshop Practice - a physical subject where learn how to use tools and how to make safe edges, wielding, wire edge and etc.
- Melayu Islam Beraja - The study of our country, our culture, our history. Without M.I.B, we won't be able to know ourselves.
- Ugama - A religious subject to lead us to the right path.
LAST WEEK'S ACTIVITY
Discipline Talk on Wednesday
29th September 2012
Took place at the MKJB multi-purpose hall, where we, marine engineering students placed at the right end of the hall. Since we, marine engineering students the last group enters the hall, we had to squeeze ourselves together. We are 3 groups together. I'm from group B.
Our discipline teacher talked about 10 things but I only heard 5 of them cause we sat REALLY close to the speaker. My eardrums broke down after number 5.
1. Parking issue
Most of students at MKJB are above 18, which means most of us are licensed driver (exclude me. I'm 18 this October). Our discipline teacher (excuse me for forgetting her name), talked about the MKJB parking spaces. Since the MKJB is covered most of licensed students, they mostly parked their cars at the teachers parking lot. Hence, she asked kindly from the students who parked their cars at the space mentioned. I don't really blame the students for it cause Belait District is an industrial district, where big companies located. So parking spaces at MKJB is small for most students who driven their cars here. I don't where I'll park my car when I'm licensed.
2. Dating
As a teenager, love is common for us. But can we handle it? To be honest, I can't answer my own question cause I'm not really experience at it. Yet. She said she saw students cuddling and what so ever in the college area and advised them not to. Because if the minister of education or anyone who sees it can ruin the good name of the college. I really respect for those couples who manage to avoid dirty things while they were together and success'till marriage. Salute!
3. Attendance
Another issue she talks about is students' attendance. She said some of the students didn't present more than 4 days in a month which leads to ZERO allowance. I don't know how they can live with that. But it is not the allowances that we're chasing, it is the subject. For me, one day skipping the lessons can lead to failure. Trust me, I've been there.
4. Smoking
Smoking in a public area is very restricted especially school and college. Like I mentioned above, most of MKJB's students are above 18 which means they're legal to smoke. Not me. I'm not 18 yet. But I smoked before, so I understand for those who really have a hard time to quit. But hey, if I can, you can. All you have to do is try. Goodluck
5. School Attire
MKJB is a college not a school. So we as a college students are allowed to wear casual clothing BUT must be smart attire with collar. But not polo. It is not consider as a college uniform. And T-shirts are not allowed except during ECA. T-shirts during workshop are highly restricted cause if anything happen, the insurance will not be responsible. I hope our coveralls are provided this Monday.
Thanks for reading my blog. I hope to hear feedback from you. I know this is out of topic but I present you this video from my band. This is a performance from us during school graduation in SMPAP last year. Enjoy and review!
